The Great Gatsby: Party Like a Rockstar

“And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.”

In May, Baz Luhrmann (Romeo & Juliet, Moulin Rouge, Strictly Ballroom) is coming out with another epic film inspired by the novel The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. This wonderful tale of love, murder, mystery, fast-paced living in New York City is an amazing novel.

“The Great Gatsby” follows Nick Carraway, a Fitzgerald-like would-be writer. He leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. While chasing his “American Dream”, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. Nick is then drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. (via)

I saw the trailer for the movie starring Leo and I knew that this would be a film that I would have to see opening-day. Everything about the 1920s as far as fashion, lifestyle, dance craze is so alluring to me that I could not believe that I had not already read this book. Maybe I read it in high school, but those days all seem like a blur so I cannot remember – AnyWho I just finished Gatsby and it is absolutely amazing, I highly recommend it to anyone. It is super easy – quick to read. It doesn’t help though if you already want to move to the East Coast this will just make you want to move faster! ..and also back in time.
